Kilpauk is a semi residential area located in Chennai, the capital city of the state of Tamil Nadu, India. The distance from Chennai's city center to Kilpauk is about 6 km. The region is situated off the Poonamallee High Road in the west. Adjacent areas of Kilpauk include Chetpet, Egmore, Anna Nagar and Purasawalkam.

The nearest railway station for Kilpauk is the one at Chetpet. This railway station lies to the south of Kilpauk and not more than a kilometre away. The Chennai Airport is about 18 km from Kilpauk.

This place was a cantonment area for British troops before India's independence.

Enterprises dealing with the manufacturing of packaging materials, wood carvings, chemical suppliers, cement exporters and suppliers, have their bases in the locality. The place also provides some of the best residential dwellings in the city.

The area around is also marked by a number of medical care units. One of the premier medical colleges in Tamil Nadu, the Kilpauk Medical College & Hospital is located here. The Kilpauk Mental Hospital is also located here. Others hospitals include One Life Mots Hospital, Gremaltes Leprosy Centre, Murali Lakshmi Krishna Hospital, Dr HT Vira Reddy Hospital, Meenam Hospital, K.S.Hospital, Padma Hospital, Rigid Hospital and Veekays Pet Care clinic (for pets). Located on Poonamallee High Road are many other hospitals such as KKR ENT Hospital, Apollo First Med and K.J. Hospital, apart from the Directorate of Medical Education. Many private practitioners' clinics too are situated in Kilpauk, including Dr. S. Vasudevan's Orthopaedics and Orthotics Clinic, Sriram's Ortho Centre.

Kilpauk is also known for its theatres which include Sangam Cinemas and Ega Theatre. Sathyam Cinemas has also started construction of its eight screen multiplex here. Mummy Daddy stores, Show off have their stores here.

Kilpauk is known for schools, including Seth P D Hinduja Sindhi Model Senior Secondary School, C.S.I Bain school, Bhavan's Rajaji Vidyashram, Chinmaya Vidyalaya, Kola Saraswati and Rukmani Vidyalaya. Kilpauk is also well known for Engineering College head offices, including Rajalakshmi Engineering College and Rajalakshmi Institute of Technology main head office jointly called Rajalakshmi Institutions Head Office and Sree Sastha Institute of Engineering and Technology Head Office.

Kilpauk is also home to many popular hangouts like Cafe Coffee Day and McDonald's.
