NH-212 through Bandhipur forest in Kerala
National Highway 212 (NH 212) is a National Highway in Southern India. NH 212 connects Kozhikode in Kerala with Kollegal in Karnataka via Mysore. Of the total distance of 272 km, 117 km is in Kerala and 155 is in Karnataka. At Kollegal, it joins National Highway 209, which connects Bengaluru and Dindigal.[1] At Gundlupet in Chamarajanagar district of Karnataka, NH-67 which connects Ooty and Coimbatore also touches NH-766.
The highway passes through dense forests of Western ghats of India. The NH-766 passes through Bandipur National Park and other reserve forests. The rapid rise in traffic of vehicles (Automobiles) in this highway has led to deaths of wild animals due to the speeding traffic, even though vehicles are not allowed from 9 P.M to 6 A.M in some stretches.[2]
The section of the road from Lakkidi in Wayanad to Adivaram (Thamarassery) called as Wayanad Churam (A hill highway with several hairpin bends) offers a scenic drive.

Night Traffic ban at Bandipura
The Karnataka government banned night traffic through the road passing through Bandipur National Park as conservationists argued that it is disturbing the wildlife from 9 P.M in the evening up to 6 A.M. in the morning.[3] The alternate road to use during night hours is, leave NH212 at Kalpetta and proceed to Mysore through [Mananthavady]], Kutta, Gonikoppal, and Hunsur. This alternate route is 32 km longer and completely bypasses Sulthan Bathery, Gundlupet and Nanjangud.
